COMM 323: Reflection Blog Post

Hey everyone!

Making a Wix account was easy for me because I was already tasked to do this last year for my COMM 260 and COMM 333 classes. I did have login issues due to it being a while since I have last been on the site, but that was solved fast. After reviewing my ePortfolio, I decided that I liked some of the information I had so I did not have to start fresh. The most challenging part was the editing process. This was challenging for me because I had to decide what exactly should be revamped. Also, it took me some time to familiarize myself with the editing resources tools and options.

I do feel confident in my professional and online presence especially after updating my page for this class. I want to come off as professional as possible and I feel that I accomplished that with my Wix page. Furthermore, when it comes to my online presence with social media, I am happy with that as well. I am very cautious on what I post because I never know who could be viewing my platforms. The area that I believe needs some more attention is my resume.

The best experience I have with a leader comes from personal experience. My mother spent 26 years in the Army, and her job required her to be a leader to soldiers in her command. She told me that she viewed the soldiers under her watch as her own children. She always wanted them to be able to come to her whenever they had a problem, and they did exactly that. The characteristics that I appreciate about this approach is that she was understanding and caring which is not really heard of in the military. Do not get me wrong, she was tough on them at times but that comes with expecting accountability from people. I know how she is as a mother, so I know her soldiers appreciated how much she cared for them. My mom retired from the military in 2016 and she is still in contact with many of her former soldiers. I think that is a testament to her leadership skills.

Additionally, there is one event that I can recall being poorly managed. This event was a family member’s wedding. The main problem with the event was that it the reception was so unorganized. There was such a huge crowd that it was a hassle getting to seats and receiving food. The event staff tried to manage the problems the best way they could, but it was still chaotic. I would have come up with a better plan on how to usher guests to their seats. RSVPing should have given the people in charge of the wedding an idea of what to expect. I would have paid more attention to that.

I do not have any questions currently about the ePortfolio project. I cannot wait to update my site with assignments from this class!
